Data protection
Thank you for visiting our website. Confidentiality and data protection are very important to us. We respect the privacy of visitors to our website and want you to feel safe and secure here. The website of the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – BIPS GmbH may contain links to websites of other providers to which the following data protection declaration does not apply. In the following, we would like to inform you about how we handle your data in accordance with Article 13 of the General Data Protection Regulation [Datenschutzgrundverordnung (DSGVO)].
Responsibility
Responsibility for the data collection and processing as described below lies with the party named in the imprint.
Saving the IP address
We store the IP address transmitted by your web browser strictly for a specific purpose and for a period of seven days in order to be able to detect, limit and eliminate attacks on our website. After this period, we delete the IP address or anonymize it in accordance with Article 6(1)(f) DSGVO.
Usage data
When you visit our website, so-called usage data is temporarily stored on our web server in the form of a protocol. This serves statistical purposes in order to improve the quality of our website. This data set consists of
- the page from which the file was requested,
- the name of the file,
- the date and time of the query,
- the amount of data transferred,
- the access status (file transferred, file not found),
- the description of the type of web browser used,
- the IP address of the requesting computer, which is shortened in a way that prevents personal identification.
The log data mentioned are stored anonymously.
Data transmission to third parties
Within the scope of processing according to Article 28 DSGVO, we transfer your data to service providers who support the operation of our website and the execution of the associated processes. Our service providers are strictly contractually bound to our instructions.
Embed videos
On our websites, we embed videos that are not stored on our servers. So that the call of our websites with embedded videos does not automatically lead to content from the third-party provider being reloaded, we show the cookie consent banner in a first step by first clicking on the "Accept" button.
Only after clicking on the button will content of the third-party provider be loaded. As a result, the third-party provider receives the information that you have accessed our site as well as the technically required usage data in this context. In addition, the third-party provider is then able to implement tracking technologies. We have no influence on the further data processing by the third-party provider. By clicking on the "Accept" button, you give us your consent to reload content from the third-party provider.
The embedding takes place on the basis of your consent, provided that you have given your consent by clicking on the button with the inscription "Load external content". Please note that the embedding of many videos will result in your data being processed outside the EU or EEA. In some countries, there is a risk that authorities may access the data for security and surveillance purposes without you being informed or able to appeal. If we use providers in unsafe third countries and you consent, the transfer to an unsafe third country takes place on the basis of Art. 49 para. 1 lit. a GDPR.
If you have clicked on the button labeled "Accept", the content of the third-party provider will be loaded immediately. If you do not want such reloading on other pages, please do not click on the button with the inscription "Accept".

As a result of the use of our registration and login functions as well as of the user account, we store the IP address and the time of the respective user action. The storage of this data is justified by our legitimate interests and serves to prevent misuse and other unauthorized use as well. As a rule, there will be no transfer of this data to third parties, unless it is necessary for the pursuit of our claims or there is a legal obligation according to Article 6(1)(c) DSGVO. The IP addresses are anonymized or deleted at the latest after 7 days.
